2 schools head to head in finals of BT Alba Debate25th November 2009 Following the high standard of competition which took place in the preliminary stages of the BT Alba Debate 2009 at An Lanntair in Stornoway, the semi finals were going to pose a tough challenge for the four teams competing for a place in tonight’s Final. Last night’s semi final debates were held in the Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh and first up debating were two schools who are no strangers to meeting in the final stages of the competition, The Nicolson Institute and Portree High School. Both schools demonstrated excellent debating and presentation skills during the competition. Mention must be given to Eilidh Robertson of Portree who shone with her quick fire questioning and interrogation of the Nicolson team. However only one team could go through to the Parliament tonight, and it was Portree High School who finally won round the judges in this closely contested competition. In the second group, Bishopbriggs Academy competed against Castlebay Community School A. Heather Kindness and Eilidh Munro have been familiar faces at the BT Debate for several years now. For Castlebay Community School, 2009 was the first year the team have reached the semi final stages of the competition. Further information on the 2009 Debate can be found on the Debate’s website.
